Cristina Injeong Hwang, Soprano
The Korean soprano Cristina Injeong Hwang, born in Seoul, leaving behind her university career in statistics, she moved to Italy to refine her linguistic and cultural knowledge of the opera repertoire at the Civic Musical Institute "Lodovico Rocca" in Alba and the Conservatory “G. Verdi” in Turin where she graduated with honors, progressively affirming herself for her vocal and interpretative qualities.
She has won numerous national and international competitions: she obtained second prize at the International Opera Competition "Piemonte Opera Voci Dal Mondo" in 2019; first prize at the “Talenti in Canavese” International Music Competition in 2017; the “Teresa Bellòc” special prize at the “Teresa Bellòc” International Opera Competition in 2016; first prize at the Opera Competition "The Music Association of Korea Competition" in 2015. In 2019 she was semi-finalist in the second edition of "Amadeus Factory Contest" and recorded Violetta's aria “È strano..." of “La traviata” by G. Verdi with i Solisti dell'Orchestra Classica di Milano conducted by Stefano Ligoratti.
In 2021 she has just made her debut as Violetta in “La traviata” under the direction of Marcello Rota at the Teatro Alfieri in Asti. In 2018 she was the protagonist in two special productions dedicated to children's operas in the roles of the Queen of the Night in "Die Zauberflöte" by W. A. Mozart and Adina in "L'elisir d'amore" by G. Donizetti represented in the Beppe Fenoglio hall in Alba. In 2017 she played as Ninfa in “Lamento della ninfa” by C. Monteverdi at the hall of Conservatory “G. Verdi” in Turin.
She has performed in important concert seasons in Italy and abroad, including in the “Alba Music Festival” of the Happy Birthday UNESCO concert with the Director Jeffrey Silberschlag at the Grinzane Cavour Castle and the New Year’s Concert with the Director Gudni Emilsson in the San Domenico Church in Alba, where she is often invited to sing and several times as artist in residence of that festival. Furthermore she has sung in the season of the Unione Musicale at the Teatro Vittoria in Turin, in the "MITO Settembre Musica" in Milan and Turin and in the “Festival de Música de Sant Pere de Rodes” in Girona in Spain. With the flutist Giuseppe Nova and the harpsichordist Maurizio Fornero she carried out a tour with a baroque music program that visited the cities of Mantova in the “Mantova Musica-Il Barocco Celato”, Rome in the "Festival Concerti di Musica Barocca” and Udine with the concert "Armonie in court”.
In 2021 she won the award "Premio Internazionale Arca d’Oro Italia Giovani Talenti 2021” and since 2021 she has been Artista del Coro at the “Teatro alla Scala” in Milan.
